  • How the NSSF Hi-Innovator Course Transformed Nectar Point Fresh Juice.

This Course is a self paced online program that equips aspiring and early stage entrepreneurs with essential business skills. It provides the tools and knowledge needed to start, stabilize, and scale enterprises.

For Juliet Ochama (32), founder of Nectar Point Ltd, the course became the turning point that reshaped her entrepreneurial journey.

Ochama’s entrepreneurial spark was lit at Gulu University (2018-2020), where she pursued a Master’s in Agribusiness. In her second semester, she was tasked with identifying a community problem and turning it into a business idea. She noticed that on campus, there was only one person selling fresh juice, leading to long queues, while unhealthy drinks flooded the market. Meanwhile, back in her village, piles of mangoes would go to waste during the harvest season.

That’s when Nectar Point Fresh Juice was born — a business turning surplus fruit into healthy, affordable fresh juice for students and events in Gulu City.

But like many startups, Juliet’s journey was not without hurdles. “Before the course, my business was struggling,” she admits. “I had no proper records, no business plan, and I couldn’t separate my personal expenses from the business.”

In 2023, she joined the NSSF Hi-Innovator Business Foundational Course through CURAD, and everything began to shift.

“At first, I found the course challenging. I didn’t understand some modules, especially calculations, but CURAD was there to guide me. With their support, I finished the course in one week. That’s when I realized how much I didn’t know about running a business,” Ochama shares.

Through the course, she:

Learned to separate personal and business finances, helping her track growth.

Understood how to calculate unit costs and set the right price for each juice bottle.

Adopted QuickBooks for proper record-keeping, moving from scattered notes to organized systems

The NSSF Hi-Innovator Program — an initiative of the National Social Security Fund in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by Outbox Uganda — continues to support entrepreneurs like Ochama in building the skills, mindset, and confidence to grow impactful businesses. With CURAD ’s dedicated guidance, Juliet’s story proves that when knowledge meets execution, transformation happens.
